ZACK PINSENT.... A MODERN LIVING ENGLISH DANDY

Twenty five year old Zack Pinsent is an extraordinary individual. And at
the age of fourteen he chose to throw away his t-shirts and jeans along with all
other modern clothing, deciding there and then to dress as a Regency gentlemen
every day.
In time his interest became his living as he eventually set up his own
bespoke tailoring business which he currently runs from his Brighton workshop.

Zack, who is a huge fan of Jane Austin, occasionally travels around several
world cities picking up more orders from interested customers keen to
dress up in the Regency style, something Zack does every day of his life.

I can just imagine Zack walking along the Brighton seafront where he
enjoys all the attention of the locals.
And it was only after a tweet went viral last week that he seems to be all
over the media and newspapers.
And I suppose you do have to commend his bravery in today's modern
opinionated world, a world that can often be hostile to anything out of the ordinary.

  1. There are worse periods of men's fashion to choose than Regency.

    1. Andrew, Only Victorian or Edwardian fashions from
the early 20th century might raise an eyebrow.

  2. I was reading about Gentlemen in the Regency era. Nothing has changed to this day.

At the start of the 19th century the landed gentry made up only a small part of the population. Whereas the peerage included about 300 families, the landed gentry encompassed: 540 baronets, 350 knights, 6,000 landed squires and 20,000 gentlemen. This group totaled about 1.5% of the national population and possessed about 16% of the national income. (Interestingly this is not out of line with the statistics in the US for 2010.)

1.5% went down to 1% these days. The richest 1% of today families control a record-high 38.6% of the USA's wealth in 2016. Gentry control has more than doubled. Feel like punching Zack in the throat right now. Utopian dream destroyer.

    1. Ah Neil, Don't be a dampner. Let Zack have his fun. Perhaps our modern but stalemate world bores him.
I think there are many other individuals out there that seemingly reject today, preferring to live in the style of another era.

But your modern statistics seem fairly accurate. We pour scorn on former Prime Minister Tony B.Liar who gave out Peerages and Knighthoods in return for Labour Party donations.

I think South America also has class/land ownership problems with a low percentage of the rich owning a high percentage of the land.

    2. It's an almost entirely irrelevant point anyway. Living standards have improved for everyone sense then, especially that supposedly downtrodden 98.5%.

The Regency era is interesting because it really was the last time in England that men specifically dressed to look sexy, rather than out of respectability (Victorian-Edwardian times) or pure, ugly utilitarianism (nowadays). Yes, before frock coats, and long before jeans (yuck!), men actually wore britches and morning coats and cared about their appearance.

Good for this chap, I say.
