CHRISTMAS 2021

So we wind up the year with another big end of year festive post, something I chose
not to do last Christmas as we were all in  worse place twelve months ago with so much
uncertainty.
But this year I did manage to get out and about in the West End in early December
just before the outbreak of the Omicron Variant. And thankfully we're only now
learning that this new Variant isn't as severe as was first thought. But we do know
that it spreads much faster. So you do wonder how things will play out once January arrives
after all the family gatherings over the holidays.

So below are a few pictures taken at home this past week. In fact I was hoping to make
a video where I was going to be in front of camera for the first time. But there just
wasn't time. But I'm planning on such a video early next year.

Also below are a few festive pictures taken around London as well as a video of the last ever
Ice Rink at The Natural History Museum.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

I didn't have much luck this year in finding the perfect Christmas tree. So once again
I resorted to my trusted artificial tree. Of course I visited a couple of my usual outlets, but
they just didn't seem to have what I was looking for. In fact I was tempted to buy the arrowed
one in the picture above taken at the big Homebase Store. It had that perfect four layered look
that makes it easy to decorate. But sadly that tree looked almost 7 feet tall and much too
big for my loft flat.

Oddly enough when I set up the artificial tree I actually left it up for several days last week
totally undecorated, as you can see above. It almost seemed a shame to cover it up with
festive clutter. But then in the end I gave into temptation so now you can barely see it under
all the decorations.

Above is one of many classic comedy sketches by The Two Ronnies featuring
Bert and Charlie, the one where Ronnie Barker impatiently finishes Ronnie Corbett's
forgetful sentences. And Ronnie Barker was indeed a talented wordsmith and enjoyed
playing around with words.

This is of course from the BBC archives from the days when they produced great comedy.
Sadly they are barely making any new comedy these days due to their annoying pc agenda.
After all a lot of our past English comedy was based on the ability to laugh at ourselves
and at others. But oh no, we can't do that anymore. Which makes you wonder why the
BBC even still has a Department of Comedy. Yet they can afford all these lavish new BBC
buildings and Media Centres, the latest one being in Cardiff, but have very little to show in
the way of new programs.

This Christmas the BBC are offering us yet again another double new festive instalment of
Mrs Brown's Boys. Then I realized why it keeps coming on every Christmas. And it's because
it is now the BBC's last comedy. They have nothing else. So if Mrs Brown's Boys were not to
be made again then we might soon end up with a Christmas without a single top major
comedy show on tv during the holidays. And I imagine that the BBC are quite aware of this.

Of course this year has been a very bad year for the Corporation and yet they
wonder why. And to be able to raise yet more income they chose to start charging the over 75's
who live on a private pension, £159 annually for their tv tax, the BBC Licence fee.
And what with their taking sides on the political front as well as their refusal to acknowledge
anyone that works outside the main stream media, along with their blatant anti Brexit stance,
then it's hardly surprising that so many anti-BBC pressure groups as well as youtubers are
now so prominent.
And one of my favourite youtubers is Chilli Jon Carne who informs us on this Christmas Day
that top Pressure group 'Defund the BBC,' talking to The Daily Express, are asking Britons
to boycott the BBC over the whole of the holiday period for it's appalling festive tv output,
which incidentally consists of three quarters of repeat shows.

Above and below is a recent festive display model that I made. And what I like about it is that
it can all be put into a large box and stored away for the year when not in use, unlike
the much more ambitious festive model village from 2016, further down this page
which took quite a while to dismantle.

Above is my Christmas village display from 2016. And it was probably my most ambitious
festive effort. It must have taken days to put together and took quite a while to dismantle.
Which is probably why it was a one-off.
It measured almost 6' 7" (170cms) in length and 50cms in depth.

This Christmas sadly saw the final ever Skating Rink at The Natural History Museum
after sixteen years. Apparently the Museum will be transforming this space into an urban wildlife area.

Once again it's time for the annual debacle we call the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree.
Of course we are grateful for this yearly gift from Norway, but I can't help thinking that if
they were to send us a potted Nordmann Fir rather than a scraggy old cut Spruce tree, then
it might resolve the ongoing problem. It's clear that a cut Spruce with no roots cannot
withstand the transportation route from Oslo to London. And as you can see above, twitter
came alive once the tree arrived in London.

I do miss seeing Queen of the tv cooks Delia Smith on our tv's. And I think the BBC lost
out with her departure. And wasn't she being diplomatic when she gave her reasons
for leaving. The fact is that she was not prepared to change her homely style of presentation
and dumb down like many of the other BBC cookery shows. That just wasn't Delia's style.
So good for her. But at the same time it's our loss but she can be seen now in her online shows

Above: Greg Wallace from BBC2's The Food Factory, with Greg looking his usual
over animated self. Something Delia was sensibly having nothing to do with.

Below we can see Delia in her final festive tv show Delia's Classic Christmas.
And the wonderful video below features Part 1 from that final festive offering.

And just to decorate this section I've added in a few festive gifs from the show.
